Although Naughty Dog has become more known in recent years for his work in Uncharted and The Last of Us franchises, the fans of the study have been continued with the hope that one day the developer will seek to return to Its roots and do another entry into the JAK and DAXTER series. However, despite the persistent hope of many fans, those responsible for Naughty Dog have now explained why it is unlikely that the study returns to those franchises of the past.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, the co-chairs of Naughty Dog, Evan Wells and Neil Druckmann, opened on the idea of returning to some of the properties in which the study used to work in previous years. While both executives recognized that they still have much love for the property of the previous study, the reason why it has not created new deliveries with these franchises is simply reduced to time limitations. If we had endless resources and time, it would be very fun to do that. Look what Insomniac is doing with Ratchet and Clank and is exciting. It's great to see those things, Wells said about the idea of potentially doing another Jak. qualification. We are limited over time, you know, I am 48 years old and how many more games you can do, so you have to choose and choose.
Druckmann echoed this feeling of Wells and said that the notion of returning to some of the oldest properties of Naughty Dog is something that has been considered in the past. Once we finished a project, we spent quite some time entertaining us in all kinds of different directions, whether it is something new or if we return to any previous franchise. We really took our time with that, and if you saw our conceptual art folders, you will see unused concepts that are found throughout the range, explained Druckmann. Then we look at everything and we ask ourselves, what excites us? What is something that will challenge us and push, and pushing the medium as far as the games can be? Because that inspiration is so important to carry out through years of production.
Although Wells and Druckmann never completely discarded the idea of making another Jak and Daxter game, at this point, it seems that the study is more focused on boosting the medium of video games as much as possible. And while Jak's games were special at their own time, it is difficult to see a way in which the study can boost the larger middle medium by creating a set of recoil action platforms.
So, what do you think of these new quotes from Naughty Dog? Would you like the study to create another entry into the Jak and Daxter franchise? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter in @ mooreman12.
