The new contract includes four years, so that the company can show all games of the league live via their internet portal Magentasport by the 2027/28 season. The DEL and Telekom announced this on Tuesday.
The conclusion of the contract with Telekom is a setback for S Nation Media. The joint media company of the former DFL boss Christian Seifert and the media group Axel Springer was also interested in the DEL games after it had previously acquired rights for table tennis, volleyball and basketball.
Seifert and Springer want to build a sports streaming service without football rights and start next year. Magentasport is currently "the largest live platform for German team sport" with around 2,000 ice hockey, basketball and football games.
Telekom has been a media partner of the DEL since 2016 and still has a TV contract running until 2024, which has now been extended. In the past season, more than 20 million viewers followed the games live, as the company wrote in a message: "This has more than doubled the reach since the start of the cooperation."
DEL-Managing Director Gernot Tripcke showed himself "very happy" about the new conclusion of the contract. "We have achieved remarkable growth in close partnership with magenta for our sport in recent years," he said.
